Australia take-home pay: what you keep
Base salary or package: say which. Super is paid on top by your employer and never reaches take-home.

You keep 75.9% of $120,000. Of the next $1,000 you earn, you keep $680 (68%).

How we calculate
Annual amounts for the tax year shown, from KeptOffer's rule registry: Registry AU v1.0.0 · reviewed 2026-09-30 · sources: ATO. Each rate and threshold links to the official source on the methodology page. This is what you owe for the year, not what payroll withholds from each payslip, which can differ month to month.
A worked example
The calculator starts with a $120,000 base salary in 2026–27. Income tax on it is $18,200 at 0% ($0), $26,800 at 15% ($4,020), $75,000 at 30% ($22,500), $26,520 in total; the low income tax offset has run out by this salary. The Medicare levy is 2%: $2,400.
Take-home is $91,080 a year, $7,590 a month. Your employer also pays $14,400 of super on top (12%), which you won't see until retirement. Of the next $1,000 you keep $680.
From 1 July 2027 the 15% rate drops to 14%, and the same salary keeps $91,348: the 2027 tax cut.

How we calculate
- Resident tax rates 2026–27: nil to $18,200, 15% to $45,000, 30% to $135,000, 37% to $190,000, 45% above (ATO). 2027–28 uses 14% instead of 15% (ATO: new tax cuts).
- Low income tax offset: up to $700, phasing out by $66,667 (ATO).
- Medicare levy 2%, with the low-income reduction for singles (ATO); the Medicare levy surcharge of 1% to 1.5% if you have no private hospital cover and earn over $105,000 (ATO).
- HELP repayments under the marginal system: 15c for each dollar over $69,528 (ATO). See HECS-HELP repayments.
- Super guarantee 12% on top of base salary (ATO); salary sacrifice reduces taxable income and counts towards the $32,500 concessional cap (ATO).
The 2026–27 low-income Medicare thresholds are not published yet, so the 2025–26 thresholds are used and the result says so. Full list on the methodology page.
What this does not include
- Non-residents and working holiday makers, who are taxed at different rates.
- Family Medicare thresholds, the seniors and pensioners offset, and other offsets.
- Fringe benefits and investment income, and excess concessional contributions (the page warns if you go over the cap).
Questions people ask
How much is $100,000 after tax in 2026–27?
$77,480 a year, $6,457 a month, with private hospital cover and no HELP debt. Your employer adds $12,000 of super on top.
My offer is a package including super. What do I enter?
Choose "Package including 12% super". A $112,000 package is a $100,000 base plus $12,000 super, and takes home $77,480, the same as a $100,000 base.
What happens if I don't have private hospital cover?
Above $105,000 you pay the Medicare levy surcharge. On $120,000 that is $1,200 a year: compare it with the price of a basic hospital policy before deciding.
How much HELP will I repay?
Only on income above $69,528. On $90,000 the repayment is $3,071 a year. See HECS-HELP repayments for every salary.
